WHO WE ARE
Wedgewood is a group of folks trying to walk the path of Jesus, the path of humility, the inward/outward journey; to be a social justice oriented, multi-ethnic/ LGBTQ affirming, incarnational, contemplative, irreverent, ancient - future church with a progressive but deeply rooted theological imagination. Wedgewood diversity includes humanist spirituality, quiet spirituality, activist spirituality, cranky spirituality, Buddhist spirituality, honest faith spirituality, intellectual spirituality, a spirituality of simplicity, poor as dirt spirituality, psychologically–oriented spirituality, labyrinth spirituality, and other non-listed spiritualities which are not listed because of space requirements and because we don’t know who is arriving in the near future.
Wedgewood has members who come from many faith backgrounds and no faith background. We have members who are Muslim, Buddhist, atheist, agnostic, and from many different Christian denominations.
Wedgewood is an Alliance of Baptists church, American Baptist Churches USA church, and a United Church of Christ congregation.
The Alliance of Baptists began in 1987 as a prophetic voice in Baptist life. Today, the Alliance is a faith community comprised of male and female laity and clergy, people of diverse ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, theological beliefs, and ministry practices.
American Baptist Churches is one of the most diverse Christian denominations today, with approximately 5,000 local congregations comprised of 1.3 million members across the United States and Puerto Rico.
The United Church of Christ was the first denomination to have ordained gay clergy, female clergy, African-American clergy, and was the first denomination to support same gender marriage equality along with many other firsts.
Welcome to a church that works for peace, justice, equality, and care of Mother Earth. An extravagant welcome to you regardless of your gender identification or sexual orientation, ethnicity, economic situation, physical and mental challenges, doubting or believing, being depressed or full of joy. We are a community of curious and creative spiritual seekers, striving to learn and embody the Way of Jesus and other religious leaders. Like Jesus, we focus on the plundered and the marginalized, as we try to address the major issues of our day. One of the ways we seek to heal the world and ourselves is through sharing parts of our personal story.
